2009 World Congress of Science & Factual Producers : Melbourne, Australia December 1-4

Ralph Lee, Head of Specialist Factual, Channel 4 (UK)

Ralph Lee is Head of Specialist Factual at Channel 4. Running a team of five commissioning editors he is responsible for history, science, religion and arts programs. The department’s ambition is to deliver both public service and commercial value to the channel, remaining populist and audience facing while giving alternative perspectives on major PSB genres often ignored by commercial TV. Notable programs this year have included Elephant: Life After Death; The Real King’s Speech; Jamie’s Dream School; Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day; Four Rooms; Street Summer; and the short form strands 4thought.tv and Random Acts. In production for broadcast later this year are Drugs Live; Mummifying Alan; Food Hospital; and major new projects with Tom Holland, Stephen Hawking and Richard Dawkins.
