Leila Monks is the director of TVF International. TVF International’s boutique approach to documentary and factual distribution has earned them a place within the media landscape as the leading independent factual distributor in the UK. Their catalogue, containing close to 3000 hours of programming, encompasses everything from exceptional one-offs to long-running series, and represents some of the most innovative and creative producers from across the globe. The team is youthful, energetic and vibrant, with eight languages spoken within the sales team alone. Both our sales and acquisitions teams work within their own specific territories, allowing us to develop a highly specialized knowledge of the broadcast market worldwide. Leila has worked at TVF for 5 years. She began her career working for the Trinity Mirror Group across national newspaper titles The Daily Mirror and the Sunday Mirror and has experience across television, press, advertising and online. She also has a B.Sc degree in Anthropology from University College London. TVF International is part of TVF Media, a cross-media group operating in television, internet and multimedia production.

My colleagues and I have decided this year to attend the WCSFP instead of MIPCOM. In the current climate, pre-sales and co-productions are essential. After the USA and UK, Australia and New Zealand are the largest English speaking markets to work with. Since attending my first World Congress in Tokyo in 2005, I’ve never missed a single edition. Why? Because the World Congress is an extraordinary opportunity to learn about the great trends of international programs’ contents. It’s easy to believe, when you come from NZ, that the local programmers will dictate everything you’ll produce till you drop dead. It’s not true! At WCSFP in Florence last year a whole new world of commissioning editors opened up to me. The WCSFP is the one place in the year where I go to gauge the direction of travel for science and history programming worldwide.
