Jennifer Peedom, Producer/Director, Viento Media (Australia)
Prior to becoming a filmmaker, Jennifer Peedom has had a diverse career path ranging from commodities trading, publishing and high altitude camera operating. She began her filmmaking career as a participant in the popular Australian ABC series ‘Race Around Oz’. Combining her business background (BA Business Hons, RMIT) with filmmaking, she became the General Manager and producer of the Inside Film (IF) Awards for IF Media (live broadcast on SBS). Subsequently, she became Managing Director of the organisation and publisher of the film industry publication, Inside Film Magazine. She was awarded NSW Young Business Woman of the year in 2003. She is fluent in Spanish, having lived and worked in Panama, and later, winning a university scholarship to undertake part of her business degree at the Universidad Del Salvador in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her career as a producer / director began in the Himalaya where she became a high-altitude and adventure specialist, producing, directing and camera operating on several Himalayan expeditions for SBS (Australia) and Discovery Channel. She was the high altitude director on the first season of the Discovery Channel six part series, Everest: Beyond the Limit. In 2007 she became a full-time producer / director, working in-house for Independent Australian production company, Essential Media & Entertainment. She directed and produced the award winning Miracle on Everest for ABC, France 5 and National Geographic Channel, which achieved exceptional ratings and screened to acclaim in the international adventure film festival circuit. Her follow up film SOLO for National Geographic Channel, ABC and the BBC, achieved critical acclaim and has received numerous international awards, including an AFI (Australian Film Institute Award) nomination for Best Documentary in 2009.
Her most recent project is in post-production and she has several new projects in development. She is currently freelancing as a producer / director.
She lives in Sydney with her husband, photographer Mark Rogers and daughter Tashi.
