2007 Highlights
The 2007 WCSFP took place in New York City, from November 26 to 29, and was presented by host broadcaster Thirteen/WNET New York, and presenting platinum partners Discovery Communications, The History Channel and National Geographic.
Industry leader Nancy Dubuc, Executive Vice President and General Manager of The History Channel, headlined the event with a special one hour “In Conversation….” session moderated by Abby Greensfelder, Owner & Managing Member, Half Yard Productions LLC, and produced by Tug Yourgrau, President, Powderhouse Productions.
Industry overview sessions, “What’s the Buzz?” moderated by Simon Andreae, President, The Incubator, Fox TV Studios, and “The Green Wave” moderated by Geoffrey Daniels, Senior Vice President, Production and Development, National Geographic Channels International, draw high delegate interest and high ratings.
Steven Pinker, Department of Psychology, Harvard University, and Nell Painter, Edwards Professor of American History Emerita, Princeton University, were invited guest speakers.
The WCSFP sees record-level attendance with 602 delegates from 24 different countries.
Three weeks prior to the start of Congress, the event is announced as sold out with a waiting list with over 60 names.
Delegate composition is comprised of a 2:1 ratio of producers to broadcasters.
94% of delegates report advancing projects or finding potential new production partners as a result of attending Congress.
29 international companies sponsor the Congress, namely, Thirteen/WNET New York, Discovery Communications, The History Channel, National Geographic, Channel 4 International, France 5, Realscreen, UKTV, Wellcome Trust, Discovery Channel Canada/Exploration Production Inc, Channel 5, NHK, Wall to Wall, BBC, CBC/The Nature of Things, Cineflix, Darlow Smithson and Pioneer Productions.
The Congress hosts 14 social events with highlights including evening receptions at the New York Public Library and the Guggenheim Museum.
Soul Sound Revue, a fifteen-musician strong group, plays hours of Motown music to the delight of Congress delegates at an evening party at the Roosevelt Hotel.
