Sloan Buzzies Award Renewed for Three More Years

WCSFP and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation have just announced a new three-year partnership, extending the $10,000 USD award for digital-first science creators through 2028, alongside continued Global Career Accelerator opportunities for the next generation of storytellers.

If you're a YouTube creator, a small team, or an independent digital-first storyteller bringing science to life for audiences online, this is your moment. Last year's inaugural winner, Kevan MacKay (BobbyBroccoli), almost didn't apply, he assumed his videos weren't what WCSFP was looking for and guess what? He was wrong! His deeply researched, long-form science content took home the prize, a trip to Congress in Rio, and connections with the traditional film industry he never expected to make.

This year, the Sloan Buzzies Award winner receives the $10,000 USD prize, a physical Buzzies trophy, full Congress registration, travel and accommodation support to attend in person, and a moment in the spotlight at the Buzzies Ceremony during Congress '26 in Tallinn, Estonia.

Submissions close August 14, 2026. Don't wait until the last minute! Submit your work here.

And it's not just about the prize. Separately, Sloan's continued support also funds 2-3 seats in WCSFP's Global Career Accelerator, its own dedicated program for emerging digital-first creators, offering full accreditation, its own travel support, mentorship, and direct access to the international factual media community. It's a different opportunity from the Buzzies Award, designed for creators just starting to build their place in the industry, but it's built on the same idea: showing up and starting the conversation is how international co-productions, Emmy-winning collaborations, and career-defining partnerships get started.

Apply to the Global Career Accelerator: Learn more and submit before August 14.

Science storytelling doesn't stop at broadcast anymore. With the Sloan Buzzies Award and the Global Career Accelerator, neither do we. If you're not planning to apply yourself, share this with a creator in your network who should be part of this community.
